What Makes Honda's CR-V a Top Choice?

What Makes Honda’s CR-V a Top Choice?

The 2019 Honda CR-V has won awards from MotorTrend, Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it’s a favorite with drivers throughout Oak Park, Berwyn, and Des Plaines. There are a number of reasons why the mid-size SUV is so popular.

Built on the Ever-Popular Civic

The success of the 2019 Honda CR-V is literally built on a winning foundation. Its chassis is the same as the Honda Civic’s, which is why the model drives more like a sporty car than a truck-like SUV. Step on the gas and turn the wheel, and you’ll feel the difference that an under-body makes.

Of course, the Honda CR-V also keeps a lot of the Civic’s style. The body is certainly shaped differently, but the sophisticated sleek lines that have defined the Civic for so long are still on the CR-V.

Enhanced with SUV Capabilities

Using the Civic’s chassis, however, is hardly a limitation. The Honda CR-V is a true sport utility vehicle, and it comes with all of the enhancement that the larger class offers.

First, there’s more room for stowing gear in the back. Standard cargo room ranges between 27.6 and 39.2 cu. ft. when the seats are up, and that increases to 75.8 cu. ft. when you fold the seats down. While the Civic’s trunk is generous for its class, this extra room comes in handy when you’re going away for the weekend or want to move an especially large garage sale find.

Second, there’s also a more powerful engine under the hood. The base is a fully capable four-cylinder that delivers 184 hp, which can be changed out for a 190-hp turbo if you want or need some extra boost. Both options outperform the Civic’s enhanced 180-hp option, and they each see better than 30 mpg* on the highway.

Finally, the extra power from the engines give the Honda CR-V more capability when it comes to towing. All versions of the SUV can pull more than 1,000 lbs., which is enough for a small trailer.

Excellent Safety and Technology Features

In addition to its steering, size, and power, the 2019 Honda CR-V also comes with a full slate of both safety and tech features.

The large list of standard safety features is a big reason why the 2019 CR-V is a top winner. Some of the highlights include advanced, SmartVent and other airbags, Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, vehicle stability assist with traction control, brake assist and electronic brake distribution. There’s also a multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines, and a full slate of driver-assist features is available on the EX, EX-L and Touring trims.

With regards to technology, Bluetooth connectivity, speed-sensitive volume compensation, and Pandora compatibility all come standard. On the three higher trims mentioned above, there’s also Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SMS text messaging, HondaLink, a backseat USB charging port and more.
